Born in Budapest, Janka Szomor-Mekis began to study violin at the age of 8. In 2006, she completed her Bachelor of Music with honors from the Franz-Listz Music Academy.

 

Later that year, she received a graduate assistantship scholarship at the Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where she studied violin and viola.  

 

In 2007, she moved to Switzerland to study viola with Prof. Ulrich Eichenauer at the Conservatoire Superiéur et Académie de Musique Tibor Varga in Sion. Later, she completed her viola Concert Diploma degree at the Zürich University of the Arts in Prof. Christoph Schiller’s class.

At 2011 she became a member of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and since 2015 she is part of the Züricher Kammerorchester.
